Wrigley Burge is quickly becoming one of the top names to know in youth fastpitch softball. A standout centerfielder for Fury Premier 2029 – Woodard out of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Burge has earned her place as the #18 Outfielder in the Class of 2029 Extra Elite 100 and the #7-ranked outfielder in the Southeast Region.
Known for her speed, leadership, and consistent offensive performance, Burge is the type of player every coach wants on their roster. In just the past two seasons, she’s posted a .450 batting average and a .552 on-base percentage over 480 plate appearances, while racking up 144 stolen bases—proof that she’s a threat every time she steps up to the plate.
Leads With Her Game and Her Heart
While her numbers jump off the stat sheet, Burge is just as valuable for the intangibles she brings to her teams. She’s a vocal leader, the kind of athlete who lifts others up in tough moments and celebrates shared victories.
“Teamwork is really important for me and my team,” Burge shared. “We push one another to get better, cheer for each other when we win, and keep each other in check.”
She also played a critical role in leading her middle school team to a conference championship, and her dedication has opened even more doors. As an eighth grader, she was invited to join the Baylor School varsity softball team, one of Tennessee’s top programs with 17 state titles to its name.
Built for the Outfield
As a centerfielder, Burge combines athleticism, instincts, and elite-level speed. Her range and ability to chase down balls in the gaps make her one of the most reliable defenders in her age group.
“I really enjoy drills that focus on making catches on the run and covering the outfield,” she said. “They let me use my speed to help the team and challenge myself.”
Her defensive skills are matched by her explosive offense. Whether it’s beating out an infield hit, laying down a bunt, or stealing a base, Burge consistently puts pressure on opponents.
Training at the Highest Level
Burge benefits from a daily training program at the Baylor School, where she works with onsite trainers to build strength, endurance, and speed. She also credits her Fury Premier club team for helping her develop mental toughness through weekly mindset training sessions.
“Fury’s mental training courses have helped me set goals and stay focused in high-pressure situations,” she said. “I’ve learned how to stay confident and resilient.”
This commitment to both physical and mental development is what makes Burge stand out. She’s not only playing at a high level—she’s preparing to reach even higher.
Driven by Faith and Family
Burge credits much of her success to her faith and her family. “My hero is God,” she said. “I try to keep Him at the center of everything I do. My faith helps guide my choices and keeps me grounded.”
She also acknowledges the huge role her coaches have played, especially Josh Woodard, who’s coached her since she started travel ball at the 8U level, and Kelli Smith, her high school coach and a multiple-time National High School Coach of the Year.
“Coach Woodard helped shape my skills and mindset. Coach Smith has pushed me to be better and taught me the value of character and hard work,” she said.
Big Dreams Ahead
Looking ahead, Burge has her eyes set on playing Division I softball. She hopes to bring home championships for the Baylor School and continue competing at the highest level.
“Playing for a program with such a strong winning tradition motivates me to work even harder,” she said. “My goal is to compete in college and keep growing as a player.”
Off the field, she enjoys playing basketball and running track to improve her athleticism—and finds time to unwind by playing Fortnite with teammates.
Her favorite quote? “Think of how far you have left, but never forget how far you’ve come.” It’s a mindset that perfectly reflects her drive and gratitude.
Inspiring Others by Example
Burge hopes to empower other young athletes the way her teammates and coaches have empowered her.
“I believe the best way to inspire others is by leading by example—working hard, staying positive, and always giving your best,” she said. “I want to be someone who helps others believe in themselves.”
With her speed, skill, and strong character, Wrigley Burge is not only a star in the making—she’s already shining bright.
